University of Birmingham
University of Birmingham, located in West Midlands, UK, was established and gained university status in 1900. Key historical milestones include the founding of the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery in 1825, the Birmingham Royal School of Medicine and Surgery in 1836, Queen’s College in 1843, and the Mason Science College in 1875, which later became Mason University College in 1898. The Faculty of Commerce was established in 1901 by Sir William Ashley, who served as Professor of Commerce and Dean from 1902 to 1933. The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, designed by Robert Atkinson, was established in 1939. During the 1960s, significant campus expansion took place with the construction of many new buildings. Norman Haworth served as Professor and Director of the Department of Chemistry from 1925 to 1948 and was later Dean of the Faculty of Science. In the 2016-17 academic year, the university opened a new library and a sports center in May 2017.
